Barnhouse Farms

About Us
Welcome to Barnhouse Farms! We are lifetime farmers and ranchers in eastern New Mexico. Our goal is to work with creation to build a healthy ecosystem abundant with life! We currently raise grassfed/grass finished beef and pastured eggs. Fresh vegetables and herbs will be coming soon!

Our Products
We work to raise our crops and animals in rhythm with nature. This means we rotationally graze our animals to mimic wild grazing herds. This method of grazing results in maximum forage recovery, a boom in soil life (think bugs and microbes), and new turf on the ground. We do this without synthetic pesticides or herbicides. This means we spend more time with our animals as we observe, build fences, move animals, and make adjustments when needed.

We are committed to working with God's Creation, not against it. We strive to have happy, healthy animals! We want our land to be a place of refuge for beneficial insects and birds. By doing this, we believe our products will be nourishing and healing.

Our Practices
We strive to incorporate practices that will build and maintain a healthy microbiome and overall ecosystem. We do this by utilizing healthy soil practices such as keeping the soil covered, minimizing tillage, encouraging diversity, and incorporating animals for beneficial impact. We move our cattle to fresh grass every 1-3 days. While the cattle typically consume the majority of the forage, the ground gets ample recovery time since the cattle won't be back for months. We do not vaccinate or routinely give antibiotics to our cattle or chickens, only when necessary for the animal’s health. We do not regularly worm our animals with commercial wormers. Instead, we use natural dewormers such as pumpkins, garlic, and apple cider vinegar. Rotationally grazing and utilizing mobile water systems cuts down the opportunity for parasites to take hold. As a result, our pastures are teeming with dung beetles and other insects and microorganisms that break down the manure, making it usable for the plants. We love seeing the numerous pollinators and other beneficial insects balancing out the undesirable insects. With each year, we can see an improvement in plant health, turf coverage, and diversity.
